Every year, thousands of crocheters look forward to May, but why? Italian amigurumi designer working under the stage name Airali, Ilaria, has been the director of a month-long Instagram challenge for years: AMIGURUMAY. This month, many crocheters will be posting content on the same topic on their profiles, and participants will be able to meet a lot of new crocheters and designers. What is the essence of this challenge and how you can participate in it, I will show you below!

#AMIGURUMAY challenge
AMIGURUMAY is a month-long adventure for crocheters, where the participants from the 1st to the last day of May they can share why they love the world of amigurumi through their own creations, pictures and videos. This is it exciting and very inspiring Instagram challenge for a whole month, where every day the Instagram post of the participating crocheters is organized around a specific theme, be it a picture or a video. The daily theme gives crocheters the opportunity to show off their favorite creations, creative corners, yarn supplies, storage methods, and we can get a little more information about the person behind each profile.
Luckily this month, thanks to the challenge you won't have to think about what to share on your Instagram, and you can gather a lot of ideas during the challenge about what topics are worth posting on. The other great advantage of a challenge is that community has a cohesive force. You can get to know the crochet community, meet new creators and designers and enjoy the diversity of your hobby every blessed day in May. In fact the organizer of the event also created a free planner for the participants, with which you can plan how you will face this challenge on a daily basis. The challenge you can complete it in full or in part, you can post daily, weekly, or just a few times, the point is not the compulsion, but the crocheting, so you can participate on the day you want. And of course, don't forget: use it when posting and follow #AmiguruMay, #AmiguruMay2024 and the daily hashtags, e.g. #Amigurumay2023day1t.

Personal experiences
I believe that both as a creator and as a designer, the challenge is very interesting, as we can see behind the scenes of our favorite designers, and as designers we can get to know our enthusiastic fans a little closer. I first came across this challenge in 2021, I was just an observer then as I felt I missed it. This later proved that you can't miss the start and you can get involved at any time, and you don't even have to post every day, because the goal of the challenge organizer is to make this an exciting and creative month! In 2022, I was already very excitedly waiting for the table to reveal the topics and it was very good to plan the content of each day and complete the entire challenge. In 2023, due to my family situation, I didn't even think about it, since with a baby and a boy starting kindergarten, it seemed hopeless to prepare for the challenge, however, I followed the events similarly to the first year.
This year I definitely plan to participate with varied content and I hope to meet many new crocheters during this adventure!
